Useful Korean expression - 두목님 기념 포스트 (1)

안녕하세요, 여러분~ Hi, everyone~ :)
This post is inspired by 맛티맛티 두목님! lol 보고 있습니까?ㅋㅋㅋ

오늘은 온라인에서 친구를 사귈 때 자주 하는 말을 적어보려고 해요.
I will tell you several common sentences that are often used when making friends online :D

1. 메신저 이용 하세요? 스카이프나 엠에센? - Do you use any messenger, Skype or MSN ?
Mae Sin Juh Ee Yong Ha Sae Yo? Skype Na MSN?

* A 나 B is either A or B. ~ 나 is the same as ~ 아니면.
See examples below!
ex)
나 지금 바빠, 조금 후에 문자나 전화 할게~ I am busy right now, I will text or call you later.
뭐 먹을래? 사과 아니면 바나나? What do u wanna eat? An apple or a banana?

2. 친구로 추가 했어요! - I added you as a friend.
Chin Gu Ro Chu Ga Haet Uh Yo.

추가하다 is to add something.
ex) 추가로 주문할 것 있으세요? Do you like to make an additional order?
반찬은 추가요금을 받습니다. There is extra charge on side dishes.

3. 블로그에 코멘트를 남겼어요. - I left a comment on your blog.
Blog Eh Comment Ruel Nam Gyeot Uh Yo.

4. 수락해 주세요~ - Accept my request, please.
Su Rak Hae Ju Sae Yo.

There is a smiliar word to 수락. It's 허락 (Huh Rak) which means 'consent, assent, approval, permission'.
We can hear this often on many Korean dramas lol
When people ask for permission from their parents to get married. :P
허락해 주십시요!!! 따님을 저에게 주세요!!!(Give me your daughter!!) hehe

5. 저 지금 나가봐야해요. 약속이 있어서 준비해야해요. - I have to go now. I've got a plan, so I should get ready for it.
Juh Ji Guem Na Ga Buah Ya Hae  Yo. Yak Sok Ee It Uh Suh Jun Bee Hae Ya Hae Yo.

준비하다 is to get ready.

Here is a funny expression that I used to say often when I was young.
준비 땅~ Jun Bee Ddang~
Kids say this when they run a race or.. start something!

** Here is something foreign learners get confused of.
나가보다 = 나가다 (go out) + 보다(see)
You might have heard this 보다 verb is often mixed with another verb together.
ex)
해보다 do and see / try and see -> 한번 해보자! Let's give it a try.
먹어보다 eat and see -> 매울 것 같은데... 한번 먹어볼까?
써보다 write and see -> 이곳에 니 이름을 한번 써봐. Try to write your name here.

just ~ 하자 is different from ~해보자 in confidence as well as its nuance.
~ 하자 is translated as 'Let's do it!!' with full of confidence, but ~ 해보자 is more like let's TRY it, Why not..? this nuance. Clear? :D

*** Today's words***

1. 이용하다 - To use ( Ee Yong Ha Da)
2. 수락하다 - To accept ( Su Rak Ha Da)
3. 따님 - One's daughter (calling her with respect)
4. 추가요금 - Extra charge (Chu Ga Yo Guem)

Useful Korean expression - Making a plan! 약속잡기

Hi 안녕하세요, everyone :)
It's been a loooooooonnnnnnnngggggggggg time! 너무 너무 오랜만이에요 ㅠㅠ Missed you*
I've been doing internship(인턴쉽), so was quite busy to post a new blog.
Guess what?! There are only 4days to go >< Olleh!!!!!
Today, no work to do.. 할 일이 없어요.... almost bored to death!!!!! 지겨워 죽겠다!!!!o_O

hm... then.....시작해볼까요? ㅋㅋㅋ

1. 어디(에)서 볼까? Where do you want to meet up?
Uh Dee (Eh) Seo Bol Kka?

보통 약속을 잡을 때 '장소 Jang So' 를 먼저 정해야겠죠? We should decide where to meet first, right?!
에 (Eh) can be omitted, and there is no difference :D

2. 몇 시에 만날까? What time do you want to meet up?
Meot See Eh Man Nal Kka?

ex) 내일 세시에 서울역 3번 출입구에서 보자.
Let's meet up at Seoul station exit 3, at 3 tomorrow.
Usually, we say 'the time' first, and then 'the place' next.

3. 금요일 저녁에 약속 있어? Do you have a plan for Friday night?
Geom Yo Ill Jeo Neok Eh Yak Seok It Uh?

ex) A: 이번 주말에 약속있어? 영화나 볼까? Do you have a plan on this weekend? Want to see a movie?
B: 이번 주말엔 안될 것 같아. 친구 결혼식에 참석해야해. I'm sorry, but I don't think I can.  I should attend my friend's wedding.

4. 혹시 시간이 되면, 연락줘. If you have time, please give me a call.
Hok Si Si Gan E Deo Myeon, Yeon Lak Juh.

We use a verb 'give' for 전화, 문자 and 연락 or just use nouns as verbs like 'call me, or text me'.
전화를 주다. 문자를 주다. or 전화를 하다. 연락을 하다.
so, you can either say, 전화해~ or 전화줘~ :D

혹시 means 'IF' and you can also use it when you are not sure of something.
ex) 혹시 우리 만난 적이 있던가요? Have we met by any chance?
혹시 모르니까 전화해봐. Give him a call just in case.

5. 정말 미안한데, 오늘 약속 취소해야 할 것 같아. ㅠㅠ
I am really sorry, but I will have to cancel our plan today.
Jeong Mal Mee An Han Dae, Oh Neul Yak Sok Chui So Hae Ya Hal Gut Gat Ah.

If you don't want to use that strong word 'CANCLE 취소' (haha) you may want to use this word 'Delay 미루다'.
ex) 오늘 약속 내일로 미룰 수 있을까?

+ tip!  To not to make your friend upset from delaying, say this.
미안 미안 미안 *100 내가 밥살게. ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ I am sooooo sorry! I will buy you a meal. :D hahaha
